BLACK MAMAS MATTER! PERIODT!
And we are PROUD Kindred Partners of Black Mamas Matters Alliance (BMMA) and are thrilled to announce our partnership for the fourth annual Black Maternal Health Week, to be held from April 11 - 17, 2021!
#BMHW22 is, first and foremost, a week of education and advocacy around the experiences of Black Mamas through a series of digital and community events, BMHW will uplift Black-women led entities to focus on the root causes of poor maternal health outcomes while also leaning on Black voices to drive conversation around tangible community-driven policy, programs, and solutions.
This year, the #BMHW22 theme is “Building for Liberation: Centering Black Mamas, Black Families, and Black Systems of Care.” This year’s theme reflects the critical need for learning about Black Feminist and womanist approaches in strengthening wellness structures within our communities and across the Diaspora as a revolutionary act in the pursuit of liberation, and in the global fight to END maternal mortality.
Movement has always mattered to Black Mamas. Award winning poet Crystal Tennille Irby will examine the impact Black Creative Matriarchs have had on Black Liberation and why it is imperative that the Movement for Black Lives include Birth Justice.
The intention of this workshop is to teach students the impact Black Creative Matriarchs have had on Black Liberation and why it is imperative that the Movement for Black Lives include Birth Justice. Students will also gain tools, specifically language, they can utilize to expand and intersect movements.
